as the roots of the

sampaguita flower

grows underground,


its silk petal wings

and the scent of rice

bloom about.


red, blue,

white, yellow,

the colors scream to

the sun,


but the wind from

the west silences

them to a hum.

 

Nicole is a 20 something college student and freelance writer. She was born in the Philippines and was part of the British diaspora when her father was recruited to serve the NHS as a registered nurse and combat their shortage of medical staff. She has lived in the suburbs of London with her parents and two sisters since 2003, and is now currently residing in Orlando, FL.
